Conceptualization of digital security.

ERP Security is extremely important aspect of protecting your company’s finances and reputation. Besides being the backbone of an organization, an ERP system is a virtual treasure trove of data, and an attractive target for anyone looking to steal private information. A successful attack against an ERP system can be catastrophic for any business. But especially for businesses with highly sensitive records, such as medical offices, data exposure can have ruinous financial repercussions, and cause irreversible damage to a company’s reputation.

1. Segregate

Compromise of a user’s credentials is one of the most common ways that security of your system can be threatened. It’s very easy for malicious software or phishing attacks to gain access to the system. However, if tasks within the ERP system are segregated, the damage caused by these types of attacks can be greatly minimized.

2. Secure

Make sure that only essential information is stored in the database. Be sure to encrypt all data during transit and storage. This will help ensure that if your data falls into the wrong hands, it will be virtually useless to them. Finally, have a third party test all touch points of your application to make sure there are no weaknesses. Address any threats that are found immediately.

In addition, if the right security tools are in place, such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention software, and antivirus software, a company stands a much better chance of knowing immediately if something is wrong.

3. Train

If users are taught how to spot whether something is wrong within the system, as well as how to properly report them, there’s a much better chance of spotting a security breach before serious damage can be done.

These practices should be put into place and strictly adhered to throughout time. This needs to be a continuing process in order to be truly effective.
