Aptean’s Food and Beverage 2021 Global Symposium – Modernizing with Industry-Specific Technology at CoreFX Session Recap

John McCurdyToday’s entry in our blog series recapping the sessions of Aptean’s Food and Beverage 2021 Global Symposium centers on “Modernizing with Industry-Specific Technology at CoreFX,” a customer presentation given by Josh Britt, CFO of CoreFX Ingredients.
In his role at the relatively young business that is CoreFX, Britt has been a big part of pushing the organization’s digital transformation forward. With more than a decade of experience in food and beverage company finance, he helped lead the selection and implementation of Aptean Food & Beverage ERP at the brand’s two facilities in Illinois.
Founded in 2016 with the goal of nourishing and nurturing bodies and minds with their specialized oil- and fat-based powdered ingredients, CoreFX has established itself as a trusted provider of premium products for the food and beverage, health and wellness, sports nutrition and pet nutrition markets. Their main lines include Healthicore (including algae oil powder, ahiflower oil powder, CBD oil powder and more); Nutricore (coconut oil powder, keto creamer, etc.); and Sportscore (CLA oil powder and MCT oil powder).
By the time Britt was brought on board in 2018, the business had experienced success in the market but was beginning to encounter issues with their systems and processes. They had a separate solution for the financials, but were conducting all quality testing manually and used many different Excel spreadsheets for inventory management, lot and product tracking, cost conversions, recipes and more.
Discrepancies between spreadsheets made month-end inventory reconciliations a “nightmare,” and employees forgetting to complete manual record-keeping duties led to incomplete data. As such, one of Britt’s first tasks when he started was to evaluate ERP options and find a system that fit the organization’s needs.
What drew him and the rest of the CoreFX team to Aptean was our customer-driven approach and commitment to regular upgrades, as well as prior experience with one of our process manufacturing solutions and our cloud deployment option. Seeing the value in the standard features of Aptean Food & Beverage ERP, they began their implementation in August 2019 and celebrated the go-live just a few months later, in December.
The improvements to the company’s data management and flexibility speak for themselves. Britt listed the following as the major benefits of the new platform:
More accurate and reliable data collection with LPN scanning functionality
Simplified inventory reconciliations with our robust inventory management features
Dedicated quality module and tracing tools that facilitate quick holds and recalls
Easier adjustment during the pandemic with remote accessibility due to cloud implementation
Smoothly applied upgrades and minimal unplanned downtime
Now, CoreFX is looking into integrating additional capabilities, including our maintenance enterprise asset management (EAM), master production scheduling (MPS) and material requirements planning (MRP) modules. By putting our food ERP in place, they’ve set a foundation for modernization that will allow them to scale and adapt as the industry continues to shift and evolve.
